A Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defribillator or CRT-D is a cardiac device which sends out electrical impulses through insulated wires placed in the heart to coordinate the contractions of the heart’s upper and lower chambers. In addition, both ventricles are paced to improve the pumping of the heart. A CRT-D also provides therapy for life-threatening rhythms. Unlike a traditional pacemaker, a CRT-D has an extra lead on the left ventricle to make the heart pump in a more coordinated way.
