What is Hepatitis?
Hepatitis is referred to as inflammation of liver and decreased liver function. Liver performs very important function in our body – digestion and it also helps in elimination of Toxic from our body.
There are 5 types of Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. These are all infectious diseases and if not properly diagnosed, treated can turn fatal. These are cause by virus, are called Viral Hepatitis.
Another group of Hepatitis- trauma to the liver are called Alcoholic Hepatitis and Autoimmune Hepatitis that are Non-Viral Hepatitis.
Hepatitis effects millions of people all over the world and due to lack of awareness and proper medical treatment there are many cases of death in hepatitis.
Some of this Hepatitis are preventable and vaccines are available for the same. Only Hepatitis A, B has vaccines globally. Hepatitis E vaccines available only in China. But there are no vaccines for Hepatitis C and D.
Some Usual Symptoms of Hepatitis
Symptoms may be very slow and insidious.

In case of Hepatitis B and C the symptoms may take time to show, but as it get acute the common symptoms of hepatitis includes

  • Fever
  • Lack of energy and fatigue
  • Joint or body pain and flu like symptoms
  • Dark coloured urine
  • Pale coloured stool
  • Pain in abdomen area
  • Sudden and rapid weight loss
  • Lack of appetite
  • Yellowish skin and eyes
Common Causes of Hepatitis
  • Hepatitis A: Contaminated food and drinks.
  • Hepatitis B : Sexual contact, reuse of needle (specially contaminated), Can pass from mother to newborn child soon after birth or within sometime.
  • Hepatitis C : Contact with contaminated blood, illegal drugs, tattoo needles and sharing needles
  • Hepatitis D :In most cases in infects people who already have Hepatitis B. In some cases it spreads through sexual contact, mother to child at birth.
  • Hepatitis E : Usually from contaminated food and drinks. Other conditions may be lack of hygiene and low immunity. It can also happen after contamination from infected sources or people.
  • Alcoholic Hepatitis:It mostly happens due to excess and regular consumption of alcohol. Other reasons may be excessive or overuse of medicines and toxic elements.
  • Autoimmune Hepatitis: The immune system may attack the liver by some condition of mistake by the immune system of the body.
Common Diagnosis of Hepatitis
Diagnosis of hepatitis includes some physical examination by specialist doctor, some medical tests.

Physical diagnosis is done by doctors about pain, tenderness in abdomen area, swellings, fever and other such symptoms.
